DIY BeaUtiFUL Collage MIrror

diy collage mirror, self esteem

Do you feel Beautiful everyday? Hands up if you feel beautiful every single day? This is not the same as feeling happy everyday but happy with yourself, your appearance, your overall self. Do you remember the last time you told yourself that you are beautiful?

Not your parents, not your friends, family members or boyfriend telling you that you are but YOU. I mean actually say it, not hiding it in your head. Did you know that the pressure to be beautiful can start as early as 14 years old.

Dove’s Self-Esteem Statistics show that 13% of Canadian girls 10-14 years old, 6% for girls ages 15-17 years old and 3% for women 18-64 years old are comfortable calling themselves ‘beautiful‘. 70% of girls all around the world get that pressure from friends. It wasn’t that long ago that I was one of that percentage and some days that little girl version of myself comes back.

I remember hearing the words “You are so Beautiful” but never believing it. Honesty, I thought people were lying to me or just say that to be nice because I did not look like… that was the problem right there, the sentence, “I don’t look like” I would compare myself to everyone, to celebrities, model,  friends, the popular girl at school, family members, strangers on the street.

I would compare everything and anything just like the girls do today. I did not have this, like that person or that celebrity. It is hard, I mean who could ever feel beautiful when you are comparing yourself to a ton of people at once. Completely picking apart from what was already beautiful from the beginning.

I made a goal for myself. The goal is, I was to tell myself I was beautiful everyday, no matter if I did not feel it at the time or believe it, I would force myself to say it anyway. Next, I made this mirror, it helped me through my school days and now it can help anyone who has been in my shoes.

Why not remove the perfect images we see in the magazines (not literally because that would take a long time) and take only positive words. Take all the positive words you can find, all the words you see next to the model or stars in the magazine and replace the image with a live image of you.

Here is how you can do it.

You will need magazines. Recycle yours or ask others for theirs.
Cut positive words like “Beautiful, Pretty, Beauty and more”
and glue them on. I used a glue gun.

Choose variety of sizes to customize your mirror.
Continue all around the mirror.

When you are done it will look similar to this.
Now you have a reminder that you are beautiful every time you look at the mirror.

  1. This is perfect! This would be great to put in a younger girl's room–learning early on that looking in the mirror should mean that you see your inner and outer beauty (and not over critique your looks). SO inspirational!

Thanks again for linking up your posts at OurMiniFamily.com last week!

  3. Really love your mirror and the message it conveys! Inner beauty is so important…..perfect for younger girls, looks don't make a person what and who they are. They need to learn this message early on to encourage a stronger self esteem. Might be just the thing thort off some of the bulling that goes on these days. Really love it……….I just might have to make one like this for my little granddaughter…..although she looks at herself in the mirror all the time and marvels at herself lol.

    1. Thank you so much Debi. I defiantly agree, I was that younger girl with poor self esteem and this idea for myself really helped me so I hope it give the same encouragement to your granddaughter as it has for me. Maybe you two can make one together. 🙂
