Upcycled Pencil Holders

Still working on the little projects for my sister’s top bunk reveal and this time I am making a upcycled pencil holder using Gerber cans. My son loves love love loves Gerber’s Lil’Crunchies Veggie Dips on which we call Puff Puffs.
He would inhale these cans and after recycling some I decided to hold onto four of the cans for a future project that I wasn’t sure of doing until now. The idea came to me and I thought it was time to wipe the dust of cans and grab some spray paint. I honestly don’t know what I was doing without spray paint.

This is what the can looks like before.

I decided to take off the cover since I won’t be needing it.
Next I used wishie tape because I still haven’t bought painters tape and this has been working really well for me so far.
Next, I taped the top and bottom of the can.
I went on PicMonkey and choose my font (which was La Belle Aurore)
and four different positive words to put on it.
Next I inserted the words onto Microsoft Word and printed it off.
After I printed I used an x acto knife to take out the letter.
Normally you want to cut out but this time I want the inside to use it for a stencil.
This next part did not go very well. After I spray painted two cans white and two cans pink. I thought after letting it dry, I would use the stencil to spray paint opposite colors with the stencil in place. What actually happened after I did that was not what I planned. The paper stuck onto the can and well it was a nightmare to take off. It didn’t work. And my intentions was great but I didn’t think it through. Rome wasn’t built in a day right?
So I had to start from the beginning. Spray paint it again to cover the mistakes and re-print the letter to cut or x acto all over again. After I tape it onto the can.
I decided to go with a safer route and use a Sharpie and stencil.
Now for the finishing result. Smile and Dream.

Love and Create

I choose four words that I thought would be perfect positive for my little sister to look at.
Love, Create, Smile and Dream.
