Top Bunk Makeover Reveal

bunk bed makeover ideas

The reveal of the Top Bunk Makeover is finally here. I made a plan of what I had visioned the space to look like. If you want to refresh your memory about my overall plan for the top bunk then you can check that out here – The Top Bunk Makeover Plan. There were a few changes along the way like not showing the spice racks or the toy trunk. I was thinking about it and it doesn’t really go with the top bunk part of this makeover it more targets towards to lower bunk so I am going to save that reveal for when it is that time. Overall I love the finished result of the top bunk. As I finished some projects, my little sister got to see it. It was like little gifts leading up to the grand reveal for her. Every time I share something she was happy and thankful that I had done it for her. It was an Awww moment for sure. Let me give you the reveal tour.

My little sister’s top bunk was very cluttered as well as what you would expect from a typical top bunk. You got your rails (to keep you from falling off the bed), pillow (to sleep on) and blanket (to keep warm). Hers was a tad bit different with the extra amount of pillows but you got the point. Not much you can do up there and defiantly not a lot of storage or anything to really make it her own. Blankets and pillows are fine but customization to fit personality is so beyond awesome.

Before
My first task was to figure out storage for all her Barbies since they are on her top five of things she absolutely loves so I decided to make a Barbie Storage Board. Now she has all her Barbies in individual pouches that look like beds. It is at her reach whenever she wants to play and it is well organized.

First thing first, I finally got rid of the pillows that were on the rail and upcycled them into Bunk Bed Cozies. My sister now gets stylish crib bumper style cozy pillows without it taking away from her view from her bed. Such a great way to recycle old pillows or flatten pillows of yours.

I was going to buy the duvet and pillow set from Ikea but really loved how everything looked with the sheets that were on the bed already. Everything seemed to work this way. Sometimes you don’t have to buy everything new. If you change a few things around then the space can still look new. Does that make sense? It did in my head. All I mean to say, you can make old sheets or blankets new by just changing the space around it.

With the addition of my little sister’s favorite can’t-live-a-day-without stuff animal (teddy) I can say this side is complete.

Onto the biggest and best part of this bunk, bed makeover is the desk area. I showed you How to Make a Bunk Bed Desk yesterday but now you get to see how it all looks with everything put together. Here it is before picture of just the desk I put up…

Here it is after!

The case we got from Value Village a long time ago. It’s perfect for holding the Barbie clothing.

Remember these Upcycle Pencil Holders that I made from Gerber Puff Cans? Look at them now, holding everything from pencil crayons, crayons, paints, and markers. Perfect for a little artist.

I added these clear drawer organizers at the sides that I bought them from Dollarama for $2.00 each. It is a simple way to keep things like staplers, glue guns and more organized and still be able to see what is inside.

Remember the IKEA Hack: Variety Frame Holder? Look at them now, holding my sister’s scissors. Missing scissors? Can’t find then at all? I think not. They now have a new home hanging right there whenever she is inspired to cut and create.

Lastly, I pick up white and pink spray paint, jean fabric and hot glue gun to create this super cute Bulletin Board Transformation. My sister can display her art whenever she wants. Showing all in the room what she created recently.

She now has positive words when she wakes up reminding her to Create, Smile, Love, and Dream.

I made sure to include her child sewing machine that she loves and adores. We bought this from Value too a long time ago. It just so happens to match my color theme.

My little sister love love loves her bunk bed makeover. She was defiantly surprised when she came home from school and saw the desk. I was hugged to death and she even hugged my son too lol. I don’t think she knew what to do with all that happiness and excitement. One thing I know for sure, I did not see her until dinner time. She was too busy enjoying her new bunk bed. So happy she enjoyed her new space.

I hope you have some time, I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment to say how much you enjoyed my post or even say hi, follow me on TwitterFacebookGoogle+PinterestInstagram page or even subscribe. I will do the same! Have a wonderfully creative week!
