Upgrade Desk Space

updated desk space

You know when you look at a wall or space and think ‘This Needs To Change‘ or ‘Ugh‘ that means you are in the beginning process of a new update or well a change. I would know because whenever I looked at my desk area I made the same remarks. Yet, life happened and I continued to ignore the section in the bed way I could.

No, I did not close my eyes but thought about it. What I did though was kept busy fixing and organizing other sections of the apartment such as my son’s closet area, my TV section, and my sister’s top bunk.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my desk space (which is strange for me to admit) but I knew that something had to change because it is the focal point when you enter.

Walking into my room and being greeted with it over and over and over was starting to drive me a tad crazy… okay a tad crazy once a week and really crazy five times out of the month. It was easy to throw things on the desk and let it collect and then be upset that it was a mess later. Hey, even this organized person can get into a bad habit.

Here is what I had to stare at on one of my bad desk space days:

*Insert Scream Here* Every organizer and perfectionist worst nightmare isn’t it? But that was a long time ago. I have kept my desk clear for months now but there is still times that I see smaller versions of this. Those were the days when I shared this sections with my makeup and jewelry.

Since then I made a new home for those things, in case you haven’t seen it already you can check it out here – Small Space Makeup/ Mirror Section.

Drum roll, please. Here is the after shots.

Completely night and day from the before picture. I bought the white shadow boxes for $3.00 each from Dollarama. Imagine my surprised when I saw it, I don’t normally see these there or things that you need a screwdriver to put together. I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for at first. When I got home, I tried out different arrangements to see what looks nice.

Bulletin Board

I also bought the bulletin board from Dollarama for $3.00. I gave away my original bulletin board to my sister and gave it a complete makeover. I was storing too much on it and wanted to simply things in my room so this small on with a cute design suited what I needed.

Words of Inspriation

I bought this word canvas (is that what they are called?) from my favourite Value Village for around $5.00-6.00. I like that I enter my room and I am greeted by motivational words every time. I know for sure I need this reminder every minute of the day.

For the actual desk (the one I never sit at) things did not change too drastically. I moved my pencil holder to the opposite side. I also moved some of the stuff that was on the desk inside or on tops of the shadow boxes like the red small storage box, the high heel, perfume and little red circle storage that I used to hold my son’s things.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the mirror that is apart of the desk but I choose to use it in a new way by hanging my sunglasses on the rails of the mirror’s frame.

Small Changes

Even the smallest changes make a huge difference, like moving my LOVE sign over. Instead of having everything so close to each other, I have things more spread out. It looks less cluttered now!
Clutches are my new go to wallet so it needed a spot to hold the ones I use the most for easy access.
I love my city lamp and mask. I tried buying another lamp but they sent me the wrong one.

I am so happy with the reveal of my desk space. It was something that did not have a plan mapped at first but worked somehow something popped into my head and I got designing and the result turned out fantastic!

I hope you have some time, I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment to say how much you enjoyed my post or even say hi, follow me on TwitterFacebookGoogle+PinterestInstagram page or even subscribe. I will do the same! Have a wonderfully creative week!

Yes, the mirror is attached to the desk and the top of the desk is glass resting on the metal frame. I bought it off a family friend who was giving it away. I couldn't leave without it!
