From This To That – Re-Vamping My Dress

revamp dress

Sometimes we buy dresses then come home it sits in the back of your closet. You pull it out and try it on again and then put it in the back of your closet again… and again… and well again. Why are you not wearing it? Is it the fit? Is it the style? Was the sleeves not what you thought it would be or too itchy?

I have realized that it is something that tends to happen to me. I buy my clothes from Orfus Road (best shopping area ever with great deals. Its pretty much where all the left over clothes from the mall go. I will have to tell you more about there another time!) Since you can’t try on the clothes at certain store, you have to well guess if it will look good on you.

I tend to buy clothes that I think I can change… not all the time but sometimes (I can’t help it). I bought this green spring/summer dress sometime last year and when I put it on at home, I couldn’t stand the sleeve on me. It looked weird, funny and completely bothered me because it was itching my shoulders and just did not look good on me top half at all.

The next time I went to Orfus Road I I bought this black like dress crop top. I wasn’t going to wear it like that, I was going to put plain color tops under it. (Never was a show my belly button type of girl.)

Three cute buttons on the side.
This is how I went from this to that. I cut the seams off the top half of the dress.
And hand sew the black crop top (underneath the flap part) to the lower half of the dress.
Now it looks fantastic!
I get my ruffles and even get to wear a color I don’t usually wear.
Now it is wearable and stylish again.

No more back of the closet for this dress. What about you? Do you have a dress or something in your closet that your not wearing and think you can fix it? Why not re-vamp it to make it your style again! I hope you have some time, I would love to hear from you. 1. Aww thank you Dawn, I can't wait to see what your dresses will look like with a makeover.

  3. Now that's pretty amazing. I have a brand new sewing machine (still in the box) that I have been wanting to get set up so I can start sewing again. I have boxes and boxes of clothes that if I would really push myself to lose the weight, I could wear again. Now, I am seeing that there is no reason why I can't enjoy those clothes now with a few sewing adjustments and then as a reward for my hard work, buy new clothes! I've also seen some clothing at thrift stores for very cheap, and with some minor sewing, I could make them fresh and new! Thanks for the inspiration. Chrystal @ YUMeating.com

    1. I am so glad to inspire you Chrystal, a clothing makeover is always a great thing to do when you got clothes just sitting there. I am happy you are going to give it a try and use you new sewing machine.
