Stay In or Get Out This Season To Celebrate Fall

Summer has come to an end and kids are back to school, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end!
With so many families resuming their otherwise normal lives, it’s easy to think that there’s nothing left to do outside, especially with the colder weather approaching. Quite the opposite; in fact, the fall is one of the greatest times to be outside! Between the cooler weather and the leaves changing, there are lots of things to do in the fall that can help you ring in the new season.

Enjoy the Scenery

If you’re fortunate enough to live in an area that truly has four different seasons, then the fall is a perfect time to witness the beauty of nature. Hop in the car and take a weekend road trip through the mountains, or book an amazing train ride through the forest to witness the different colors. You don’t even have to live in New England or the greater Northwest in order to travel by rail, there are train rides in many states all across the U.S.

Not in the mood to sit on a train? Try a different mode of transportation instead! Fall foliage cruises are some of the most amazing and luxurious ways to experience the fall weather, as well as eat some amazing food in the process. And for the super adventurous types, you can hardly get closer to nature than with a horseback ride through the canyons of Utah or the wide open spaces of Wyoming. And just because you’re older doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the fun! Simply search for “fun senior activities near me” and see what is in your area!

Enjoy the Food

In a day and age when the smell of Pumpkin Spice heralds the coming of fall, it only makes sense to celebrate the new season with something flavorful. Get some friends together and cook a fall-themed meal with fall favorites and then take it out into the woods for a nice picnic.

You could also take a cooking class! Sur La Table has all sorts of fall-themed classes, such as “Fall Vegetarian Cooking” and “Apple Harvest”; in case you can’t make it to an in-store class, they also have online classes available as well. Williams-Sonoma also has a class available called “Fall Baking” to get your kitchen prepped for all the autumn meals ahead.

Enjoy the Spirit

Whether you stay inside or head into the great outdoors, there are a myriad of ways to get into the Fall spirit. Sit at the table with your family and make some great fall-themed crafts, or pack everyone up and head to a local craft fair. Or if you really want to take it seriously, make some crafts and set up a booth to sell them!

The fall months also bring with them a host of things to do outside, such as camping under the stars or visiting a haunted house. But one activity that is often overlooked, but especially necessary during this time of the year, is volunteering. The colder months bring greater hardships on people that are less fortunate, and organizing a group to volunteer at a soup kitchen or food bank is a great way to give back to your community and get into the coming holiday spirit.
No matter what you decide to do, the colder weather does not mean that you have to simply sit indoors and wait til next summer. There are plenty of things you can do with friends or family in your own community, whether you want to venture out into the world or cuddle up indoors next to a cozy fire.
