I was finishing up the Top Bunk Makeover reveal when I realized that I was writing instructions on how to Make A Bunk Bed Desk. I figured… why not just make this a separate post instead of having it in the reveal of the makeover. Which brings me to this how-to. One side of the bunk bed is finished for the Top Bunk Makeover plan, but now it’s time to tackle the other side.
This is the biggest surprise yet…. the desk!
We bought this LINNMON white table top from Ikea for $19.99. It was the right length but the wrong width. The width was a bit wide. Not a problem at all. Solution? To cut the extra bit of the desk. I personally don’t own a saw or electric cutter (adding it to my wishlist as we speak), and there was no way I was going to try to use a knife to get through it.
I called Home Depot to ask if I could bring it over and cut it, but they prefer to cut items bought in their store, which was fine by me. Finally, I found someone who knew someone who owned one. A few days later, I had my desk cut.
I repeated the same step to the wall without the desk being attached. Used a pencil to mark where the nails will go, then drilled holes for the screws. I don’t own a drill (another item to add to my wishlist), but a neat trick I like to use on my concrete walls is hammering a nail into the wall, taking it out, and then using a screwdriver to put the screws in. Works perfectly every time for me.
