How to write wedding vows that will make you cry with joy? Your wedding vows are your moment to share how much you truly love your fiance. This is your moment to shine, to say everything and anything that you want to say to your fiancé even if it is in front of all your family and friends.

What you are going to say will make your fiance cry but not because of sadness, only because your words touched your fiance’s heart. So, let’s talk about how you can do this for your wedding.

Compliments

Your first words should always be compliments when it comes to your wedding vows. Why? Who doesn’t love getting a compliment? It is always nice to hear a few nice things that you appreciate about your mate such as “You look beautiful (or handsome) today“. It makes your fiancé feel good but it also eases their nervousness and starts you off in the right direction.

What to Include in Your Wedding Vows?

You will want to start by asking yourself some questions in order to get the wheel of ideas spinning. Ask yourself: What was your initial thought about your fiancé when you first met? When did you realize that you are in love? What is the one thing you admire? What is your favourite memory? What did you gain from your fiancé? What do you look forward to most in married life? Favourite movie line or song that says it all for you?

Where to Start

Start with the past. Where did it all begin for you? Think about how you felt when you two first met, how right now (the present) has been for you and the future of how you see your life together after this moment.

Only you two truly know what you have overcome as a couple, how your fiance has changed your world and what you want to see or continue in your future. Jot these down and you have now started to create a foundation for you to write your wedding vows.

Make it Personal

Talking about the past, present and future also contributes to my next point which is making it personal. This ties in so well because being vulnerable is not always easy for everyone, it just means you are putting your whole heart and soul into what you want to say. So talking about your journey together is personal to the both of you. It is nothing to be ashamed of.

The more personal and real the better when it comes to your wedding vows. Think about the times you had something really hit home for you and how it made you feel. Make it personally will create that same feeling for your fiance. It will really hit the heart.

Vow Inspirations

For more inspiration, you can always look towards other couples’ vows. If you are completely stuck on writing your vows then looking at other couple’s vows can make a great example for you to give you some ideas. Be sure not to copy them word for word because it takes the personal touch out of it.

Another way is to look to song lyrics. There are some song lyrics out there that can say the words for you. If you are creative enough to make your own song lyric or a poem this example would work for you.

Avoid

As much as I talk about things you should talk about, I should also mention a few things you should not talk about during your wedding vows. I mean stay clear of these things such as talking about the bad memories, past things that really shook your relationship like a breakup, talk about exes, inside jokes or sexual stuff. These are a no-no when it comes to wedding vows.
