Summer is approaching and I don’t know about you, but every summer I brace myself for the dreaded “I’m bored!” sentence from my son. You know the one. It sneaks up just a few days after school ends and then comes the screen time battles, snack requests, and sibling arguments (if you have more than one child). Regardless of if you have one child like me or more, it can feel like summer break is more survival mode than a vacation.
Now, I’ve tried it all from summer schedules to screen-free zones—but as my child gets older, it starts to get harder to keep him entertained without breaking the bank. One thing I am excited to add to the list is a camp that actually will make screen time worth it.
It’s called the #LifeSkillsNow Online Summer Camp, and if you’re a parent who wants your kids to learn real-world smarts—not just scroll fast—it’s the secret sauce you’ve been looking for.

When Screen Time Becomes Life School

Let me backup a bit. Not long ago, I caught myself frustrated over how much screen time my son was having. And yet, there I was—telling him to turn off the tablet, video game or TV without offering him anything else meaningful or engaging. The tug-of-war was exhausting.
Then I was asked to be a speaker (aka camp leader) for this online summer camp, and that got my attention. Where has this been all my motherhood life?
So this year, instead of zoning out with video games, my son will be watching short, exciting videos that will spark action.
I have been saying how we needed to learn more life skills in school, but until that happens, I am excited to switch things up and have a really cool summer with this camp option. Remember, it’s not about taking screens away—it’s about using them with purpose
What Is the #LifeSkillsNow Camp?

Created by Katie Kimball (you might know her from Kids Cook Real Food), the #LifeSkillsNow Online Summer Camp is totally FREE, packed with 100+ workshops from 70+ real-life experts, and it teaches everything we wish schools still did:
- Cooking basics (like “no-recipe” soup!)
- Cleaning and decluttering
- Earning and managing money
- Time management and digital planning (my session is all about How to Use Digital Planners for Teens)
- Gardening, sewing, leadership, and problem-solving
- Even how to do taxes for teens (I mean—yes, please!)
The workshops are short, high-energy, and built for kids, tweens, and teens—with plenty of take-action moments to get them off the couch and into hands-on learning.
The best part? It’s designed to be family-friendly and flexible. You can do it alongside your kids (trust me, you’ll learn a thing or two), or let them dive in on their own with age-appropriate content.
