5 Zero Waste Ideas for Green Living Beginners

5 Zero Waste Ideas for Green Living Beginners | City of Creative Dreams

Let’s talk about zero waste ideas. Why? We only have one Earth, that is what I like to remind myself and tell my son about because it is true. Our goal from time should have always been to take care of our planet because we rely on it and so does our kids. Simply things that we may not think about can have an effect on Earth and if you haven’t noticed yet the evidence of that is all around us. I love how young ones are all in to help the planet and fix past adults mistakes of not caring for it. As parents and adults here are some things you can change in your life to make your living green.

Tooth Brushes

They can be a hassle to find the right one but simple to buy one at any store out there. Then you have to get rid of them when you get sick or it falls into a toilet. The average family gets rid of four toothbrushes annually while some get rid of them yearly. How do you get rid of toothbrushes? Do you toss them in the garbage in your bathroom? Believe it or not, all of your toothbrushes are sitting in a landfill. That is why there are eco-friendly toothbrushes out there. I recommend you check out this article over at Apartment Therapy for best toothbrushes.

Straws

Drinking straws are among the many things you see in our landfills and in our oceans. It is so sad to hear that our ocean animals are getting injured or killed by our trash. Straws are one thing we get all the time from the store or even when we grab food from our favorite fast food restaurants. However, there are ways to decrease the number of straws that we use. Simply by using reusable straws such as bamboo, paper, steel and glass straws. The best straws are the ones that come with your reusable bottle so that you really don’t have to look too far for one.

Deodorant

We all want each other to smell great so yes, we need deodorant to help with that. What happens to your container once you’re done with it? Where does it go after you throw it away? How can we get this achievement of having deodorant in an eco-friendly way? You can switch to a spray version where you are able to reuse the bottles such as the deodorant I used at the Honest Company. Another option is to reuse the deodorant container and make your own deodorant. There are many easy and simple deodorant recipes out there.

Shopping Bags

Yes, shopping bags tend to be a must when it comes to shopping for anything. Stores hand it out as much as a person uses tissues when they have a cold. It is the sad, ugly truth. However, they now give you the option to bring in your reusable bags and to also buy reusable bags at the store in case you forget. Please buy them if you forget.  It happens to everyone but it sure makes the difference when you don’t get them. Try making sure that you leave some in your car or have a those cool clutch verisons in your purse of bag. If you do happen to have a plastic bag and wonder what to do with them. Check out my post on how I recycled my plastic bags – Pillow Inserts & Pom Poms.

Final Thoughts

Don’t think you that the little things you do don’t affect Earth because it does. It takes individuals like me and you to make a change. The best thing you can do is to show others, teach your young ones and showcase to your neighbors that you care about the planet you live on. Before you know it, everyone will be making changes in their lives to.

I took a pledge at the green living expo with Greenpeace, this year to reduce my plastic in my home and life. I do this anyways but thought to pledge it loud and proud (aka signing my name) really makes it concrete. This is by no means a sponsored post but a company that I think is on the right track to make a difference. Did you know? Every year, up to 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans. That’s the equivalent of a truckload every minute! Greenpeace is campaigning to stop this, and I’ve pledged to help out in any way I can. Will you join me? Here’s the link.

Did you really think that is all? Of course not! Go on and explore I’d love to share more with you, check out my about page! I hope you have some time, I would love to hear from you. 2. […] Just leave it on a chair or couch, it for show not for holding tight or resting your head on, I wouldn’t recommend that at all. Okay, so this is not a pillow you can cuddle at night with but it is a very cool, very green way of making décor. It is also perfect for if you have a seat on your porch or backyard. Oh, the answer to my question above is left one, if you were wondering.
