How to Make Your Life Easier Before Your Vacation

Whether you are going on your honeymoon or a vacation by yourself or with the family, there are things you need to do before you go away from your home. These are essential to making your life easier before and after your vacation. Allow yourself to be relaxed and less stressed before you sit down on the plane and head off to the sunset.

Here are a few things you should do the night before:

Make Sure Your Packed

Aim to not be a last minute packer. Make sure that you are all packed and ready to go at least the night before you leave. If possible, be packed two days before your trip. Last minute packing only results in stress and unnecessary running around. Have yourself a packing checklist and check off everything you have packed already. This saves you time from having to unpack to find out or trying to remember what to pack off by heart. That means you only will have to slip in your toothbrush or hairbrush in your bag before you go.

Luggage By The Door

Once you are all packed, then you should have your luggage and bags by the door. This is the best idea ever because if you have all your bags by the door ready it is fewer things to think about when you are getting ready to go. This leaves you to only have to focus on getting yourself so transportation such as a taxi or uber or if you choose to pack your vehicle.

Outfit

Pick out your clothes the night before. Why rush around your closet to look for what you are going to wear when you can do it the night before. That way all you have to do is wake up and get dressed. Also, just like your luggage and bags, you should figure out which one of your coats and shoes you are going to wear and have it out for you and your family to grab and go. Save the time digging in the closet this way is overall easier on you.

Throw away trash

The worst thing is to come home from your vacation and smell garbage. You do not want to come home to that or smell of garbage that has lingered from since the time you left. I can only imagine that you will not be happy to be greeted to that. Nor do you want bugs having a house party of their own. Therefore you should make sure you bring your garbage outside to your garbage can or down the shoot of your apartment building.

Clean Your Home

Tidy up! You are going to want to have your home all cleaned up. Reframe from having stuff all over the floor and dirty clothes piled up. You will want to come home to a clean home and not instantly think about things you have to do around the house. Sweep the floors, removing crumbs from couch and counters will all keep the bugs away. Wash some clothes and make it as clean as possible.

Remove Any Wet Clothes

If you have done some last minute laundry, it can be so easy to forget clothes in the washer. It is fine when you are home and can quickly put them into the dryer however this is not the case if you are going on vacation. Leaving your clothes in the washer for a long time will only give you a mouldy odour not to mention that is not great for your clothes as well. Make sure you check your washer for any clothes that may have been forgotten. Simply pop them in the dryer.

Pack vehicle

If you have your vehicle in your home garage then it is a great idea to pack your car the night before if you are driving your own car or if you are leaving your vehicle at the airport parking. This, however, is not a good idea if you park outside or parking in a shared underground parking area due to your belongings getting stolen.

Here are a few things you should do the night before:

Close Curtains & Lock windows

Make sure that you check your windows to ensure that it is locked. Don’t show everyone that you have left your home. In order to do this, keep curtains closed so that people or neighbours walking by your place won’t know that no one is there. This doesn’t necessarily have to be just for houses and townhouse but apartments too.

Unplug electronics

Another thing, you should keep in mind is your electronics. Save energy and your energy bills when you unplug your things. You do not need the TV to be plugged in when you away so unplug it. Unplug as much possible like your toaster, microwave, coffee machine to your alarm clock. You’re not there to use it to unplug it. However, you may want to opt out of unplugging your PVR so that you don’t miss any TV shows.

Light Clean

Before you go, you should do some light cleaning. I know that I mentioned this before but I don’t mean you should do a huge clean up since you most likely did that already but a small one. Think about making sure the dishes that you had used are washed. Any crumbs are swept away or put dirty clothes in a laundry basket and of course, you should take out any extra garbage with you may have made in the morning from your breakfast or lunch.

Lock the door

Always lock your door. The back door, front door, garage door and all doors. You would be surprised how many people do not lock it. You should do this regularly but even more so when you are on vacation so that you don’t get unwanted guests to be living in your home while you are gone.  If you can, I suggest getting a security device or alarm system to help protect your home.

Final Thoughts

Go on vacation with a smile. By doing the things above, you are making your life so much easier. Imagine coming home without thinking about all the things you have to do next. Think about not coming home to smelly garbage or a messy home. But most importantly, why not start your vacation by setting things up ahead of time with having everything packed and your outfits picked out the night before your vacation. Now, I don’t know about you but life sounds so much easier this way!
