How to Preserve Your Adorable Ultrasound Photos

how to preserve your ultrasound photos

The first time you meet (or I guess I should say see) your baby is through an ultrasound. To me, that was when it felt real, like really real. There is a baby inside of you… REAL! Then they give you ultrasound photos along your way and you start to watch your baby grow apart from the obvious stomach growing process but you get the V.I.P look at this little baby you are bringing into this world.

However, we all know that some ultrasound photos fade which is horrible because we all want to keep that moment and make it last forever…correct? I am the same way. I had my son’s ultrasound photo up on my mirror for a long time (okay he is two right now so a year or so) until I noticed that my mom’s copy was starting to fade. How can I keep mine from fading? – I thought.

I never actually took the time to research it, I just did the first thing that came to my mind. Laminate it! but DO NOT laminate it with heat. It will destroy it (so I have been told). How can I laminate then? Let me show you.

How to Preserve Your Adorable Ultrasound Photos

Step 1

First, you will need self-adhesive laminated sheets. I bought mine at Dollarama. It’s a three-pack for $2.00 however some say you can find them at a Staples, Walmart or office supplies store.

Mine says that it is reusable but it doesn’t work (in my opinion) I used it for something else and it ripped the backing and just didn’t work out to be reusable. Here is what we are going to be doing.

This is what the sheet looks like.

Step 2

I decided to cut mine in half because I am not using all of mine.

Step 3

Next, take your adorable ultrasound photo. You can cut it if you want. I did!
(Awww isn’t he cute!)

Step 4

And place it down on the non-sticky side. Make sure the image is facing down. I also added the date this was taken and how many weeks old he was on the back of the image.

Slide the image to the bottom of the sheet.

Step 5

To avoid air bubbles, I like to add a small amount of the sticky side to the picture.

Then smooth it out.

Step 6

Make sure the separation paper (blank sheet of paper or sheet with the instructions on it) is on an angle before continuing,

Now slowly apply the sticky side onto the ultrasound picture. Remember this part can something get tricky, especially with those annoying air bubbles that can appear if you apply too fast. But I personally like to smooth the air bubbles out as I apply it until I get to the end.

Step 7

When done, cut around the ultrasound image, leaving space for the laminated sheets to touch. Also, I find that the edges can hurt you if you get scratched by them so curving the ends really help to prevent this from happening.

Now you can add it into a frame, place it on the fridge or add it to an album.

Final Thoughts

Of course, I always recommend that you scan and keep a set on your computer as well.  You can even email it to yourself if you wanted to. You never know right, so it is always best to be one step ahead. As you can tell I like to be overly prepared than under (sometimes). I hope this helps. Let me know if you have alternative ways to preserve your adorable ultrasound photos!
