What To Look for When Buying a New Tablecloth

Buying a new tablecloth may not seem like the most exciting purchase, but you still want to find one that captures the vibe and style of your home. As with any purchase, there are many big and small factors to consider that can help you make an informed decision. Look for these factors when buying a new tablecloth for your home to narrow things down and make your spaces flow.

Size and Shape

Naturally, the first thing you want to check for is that you’re buying a tablecloth that’s the right size and shape for your table. Getting measurements is important because you want to create a roughly 6-10” drop on all sides of the table. If you have a round table, you should try to find a rounded tablecloth so that it looks nice when you have it on display.

Color and Style

It’s always a good idea to consider the color and style of your tablecloth. For example, having a more elegant pattern with dark, earthy tones may be ideal for your dining room. Still, it may look out of place on your backyard patio table during a summer barbeque, where a brighter red and white checkerboard pattern may be preferable. Tablecloths come in many different designs, so you want to find one that will match your table and complement the design of the room.

Material

Different tablecloths come in a variety of materials. Cotton and linen are some of the most common for indoor use, while many outdoor cloths are often vinyl-based. When you’re buying a cotton, linen, or even satin tablecloth, it’s a good idea to check for the very important OEKO-TEX Standard approval. This standard ensures that the tablecloth you buy is free of harmful chemicals or additives, which is beneficial when you’re buying something that will have hands and food on it.

Primary Function

When you’re trying to figure out what to look for when buying a new tablecloth, it helps to consider what you plan on using it for. For example, you may want to find a tablecloth that’s perfect for holiday dinners or entertaining company, and a nice tablecloth can help you set your table like a pro.

On the other hand, you may want something more durable or disposable for hosting a country boil with plenty of messy food on the table. Additionally, families with small children may want to buy something that doesn’t stain and is easy to clean
