Having your mom or grandmother pass down their dress to you can happen still to this day. In some cases, the dress is still beautiful and can merge in this modern time. Not only is this a moment for the family to remember and a special bond between mother and daughter, but this also saves you money on your wedding dress. The most you will have to pay for is alterations to the gown to fit your body. Now, you get to walk down in an aisle the same way as your mother got to. A memory to remember for sure!

Your Mom’s Wedding Dress

Having your mom pass down her dress to you used to be a tradition. Nowadays, it is not as common that brides to wear their mother’s dress. For the reason being that, brides want their own style of dress and have different tastes than their mothers. However, if your mother is giving you a wedding dress you can consider using the fabric of the dress and creating your dream dress with it. Find a seamstress who could make your dream dress possible.

You can use the same concept as the one above, however, this is a great option if your mom’s wedding dress is not an option. Search through the racks at vintage clothing stores or consignment boutiques for something that is your style or preference. Check out websites that sell pre-worn wedding dresses. Then take the dress to a seamstress to create your own dress.

Yes, you read that correctly. There are sites where you can rent a wedding dress. This is for brides who know that is a big day but do not want to spend a huge amount on a new one. Also, do not want to keep the dress after the big day. Not only are you spending an overwhelming amount, but you are also reusing a dress so that others can do the same.

By not only wearing a dress once, you are also able to give the dress a new purpose over and over again. Rent the Runway is a great company to consider and they can do your entire wedding party as well.

If all those suggestions above are not to your taste and you must have a brand new dress for your wedding then that is completely fine. Find a designer that works with and uses sustainable fabrics. These are fabrics such as organic cotton, silk, and hemp.

H&M launched an eco-conscious wedding collection and you can also consider using Reformation. Both companies use recycled or sustainable fabrics in the clothing they make. Therefore you get a brand new eco-friendly wedding dress.

Final Thoughts.

Being eco-friendly doesn’t mean that you have to do too much to get it correct. With companies already taking the big steps for you, it only makes finding and wearing a wedding dress all too easy. Whether you are wearing your mother’s dress, using the fabric to create one in your style or buying a completely new wedding dress from companies that think about our environment, you are still being eco-friendly with your wedding. See, what wasn’t so hard, was it?
