Anyone looking to change or spice up their morning routine? Organizing your morning routine for success is essential. As the saying goes, “How you start your day sets the tone for the rest of it.” Which I believe to be true!

So, whether you’re a morning person or a self-proclaimed night owl looking to embrace the early hours, I’m ready to help you organize your morning routine.

The Power of a Well-Organized Morning:

As much as it may feel like it, your morning routine isn’t just about getting out of bed and rushing through tasks. It’s a time in the morning to invest in yourself, align with your goals, and create a positive mindset for the day ahead. By organizing your morning routine, you’re essentially designing the foundation to set your day on the right foot.

1. Establish a Consistent Wake-Up Time.

Believe it or not, the first step in organizing your morning routine is to set a consistent wake-up time. It may not sound as exciting but this aligns your body’s internal clock, allowing you to wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to tackle the day. I mean who wouldn’t want to wake up feeling refreshed?

2. Prioritize Quality Sleep.


Speaking about sleep, a well-organized morning routine actually starts the night before. Ensure you’re getting enough quality sleep by creating a bedtime routine. I am talking about setting the mood by dimming the lights, putting away electronic devices, and engaging in relaxing activities such as reading before bedtime.

3. Design Your Ideal Morning.

What is your ideal morning? Envision it! What activities make you feel grounded and energized? Whether it’s exercise, meditation, reading, or enjoying a leisurely breakfast, design your routine based on activities that resonate with you. Also, be realistic, if you have children you may not always get these ideal mornings so give yourself grace.

Help your future self and limit decision fatigue. The best way to do that is by planning your morning the night before. It is the perfect way to minimize decision fatigue and create a smooth morning transition. Here are a few ways you can achieve this:

  • Lay out your clothes.
  • Set up your coffee maker.
  • Have your lunch made.
  • Jot down your top priorities for the day.

5. Hydrate and Nourish Your Body.

Start your day by hydrating your body. Whether it’s a glass of water, warm lemon water, or your favourite herbal tea, these will give you the boost you need. Hydrating your body helps to jumpstart your metabolism and boost energy.

Breakfast can be a struggle for some, however, you need to nourish your body with a nutritious breakfast to fuel your morning activities. Therefore if a big breakfast is out of the question, consider smoothies instead.

Integrate mindfulness into your morning routine. You might not think it’s a big deal but it helps give you a pause before starting the hustle and bustle of life. Here are a few ideas to add this to your routine:

Get your body moving! It is good to get your body ready for the day with some exercises to help boost your mood and increase your energy levels. Here are some ideas of what you can incorporate into your morning routine:

  • Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
  • Walking to the next bus stop.

8. Add Time for Personal Growth.

If you can, why not dedicate time to personal growth activities in the morning? This is a fantastic way to spend time reflecting, dreaming or imagining. Block out time to spend time with yourself. Here are a few ways you can do this:

  • Reading a chapter of a motivational book.
  • Journaling.
  • Setting intentions for the day.

9. Life Happens, Stay Flexible.

Many will say that consistency is key, but I would also like to add that you should allow flexibility in your morning routine. As we know life happens, and having a flexible approach instead of a strict discipline approach ensures that you can adapt to unexpected changes without feeling stressed or guilty. Give yourself grace, there is always the next morning and the morning after for you to get back on track.

Organize your morning routine! It is so important to establish this to give your day what it needs right in the beginning. It may not always turn out the way you like but it’s the effort that counts so celebrate that! If you have kids, also help them to make their morning routines and be a team to get things ready and done together. Your future self will love it!
