My Secrets & Advice For Beginner Bloggers

My Secrets & Advice For Beginner Bloggers | City of Creative Dreams

I have got some secrets and advice for beginner bloggers that I am dying to share! It is one thing to be a blogger but another thing to know people who want to be a blogger. Usually, I don’t meet inspiring bloggers however this past year I can think of four people off the top of my head and they ask me for advice about blogging. Me! I always seem to be surprised but at the same time-honoured that they ask me. With 5 years or so now under my belt, I think I am well qualified to share my advice.

It wasn’t until the other day that I was going through my Instagram account and saw a direct message from one of my followers asking me for blogging advice. That is when it hit me, I should really take a moment to share my advice for beginner bloggers more. I tend to reflect on my blogging mistakes and journey per year to celebrate my blogiversary but never I deep posted about my advice until now.

So hello, new blogger and welcome to the madness and brilliant adventure of the blogging world. Are you ready for me to share my secrets & advice for beginner bloggers? Great! Let’s get started.

My Secrets & Advice For Beginner Bloggers

Never Too Young or Too Unexperienced

All throughout my life I have been an old-souled person because well life didn’t simply push me in a stroller. I had to live life and things happened that moulded me. However, I still get the occasional “Oh your too young to understand or to know, dot, dot, dot“. There is one thing to be carded all the time and another to be constantly mistaken for a school girl. I get it… I know I look young.

Yet don’t let this young face fool you. I have lived an interesting life.

It all started very unexpectedly for me which tends to happen to me every once and a while. Let me sum it up for you in a nutshell. I graduated high school, took a year off, got pregnant, took two diploma courses before I became a mom then decided to become a blogger and an author.

So, you can say that my life definitely wasn’t all that planned out. However, having my son ended up sparking my dream and love for blogging. I wasn’t experienced at blogging at all and pretty much learned as I went.

Write What You Love

All I knew was that I love writing, love organizing and natural products. Why not share it? It is so important to write what you love because everyone can tell if you are faking it or not generally interesting in what you are talking about. We feel it. Words make you feel something just as a song does. So be real when you are writing, speak from the heart because you don’t have to be perfect. It is all about sharing what you love and loving what you do.

#Imperfect

I used to believe that bloggers lived this perfect life because their pictures were perfect every single time. I would go on their sites or Instagram and be in awe. Their homes were fabulously organized, they had makeup on, their fashion was always amazing and don’t get me started on their content photos for their sites.

I felt like I couldn’t keep up and I couldn’t be like them. There was no way but I failed to realize that they have their own system but at the end of the day, they were just like me. You cannot compare yourself to anyone because their life and style are completely different from yours. You can’t catch up to someone who has been doing this for years. All you can do is ride your own journey and your audience will relate to it.

Find Your Voice

You are going to get offers for other bloggers to want to guest post, which is great for them and you if you want a break, however, it can get overwhelming. My life at one point felt like I have multiple managers. They would take advantage of me and not be so appreciated sometimes that it wasn’t fun anymore.

My editor’s calendar had more guest posts than my posts and it made me incredibly mute. It was so hard to find my voice when there were so many other voices taking over my site. However, since I completely closed that chapter I was able to spread my wings my way.

There wasn’t anything I had to inform about an article or find slots for. I was back to writing to my audience myself. So, before considering allowing guest bloggers, make sure you don’t get sucked into a black hole of guest posts.

Learn from Mistakes

I used to hate the word mistakes when I was younger. Which basically means I would simply wrap my head that I couldn’t do something perfectly. That used to be me. However, now I wear my blogging scares as my amour. We all have to go through some blogging mistakes in order for us to not do that again, it is helpful to struggle because it builds us up.

I gain more confidence in my blogging skills that way. I was able to get results after getting back up and it was worth all those long nights of figuring out what I did to completely lose my site or page or article. This is all in the process of learning.

Dedicated Days

Secret #1 – Since September, I only use Saturdays or the weekend for my blogging and schedule days. I used to be blogging all the time, five posts a day but it only got me stressed and overwhelmed so I decided to write only three posts. I write on the subway home on my phone throughout the week so my scheduling day is good to go.

Pinterest

Secret #2 – Pinterest is my best friend…don’t tell my actual best friend that. I don’t know about you but Pinterest is pretty addicting. I love pinning new ideas all the time however my secret is that I have an assistant who pins for me and that assistant is Tailwind.

It is best for scheduling your pins. By pinning your content images to Pinterest, you are opening a door for more people to find your site. I highly recommend you pin your content as a traffic source.

Right Platform

Secret #3 – Blogger is a fantastic platform if you are just doing your site as a hobby with no interest in making it a business. That is what I started off with and then I wanted this to grow it bigger and in a different direction so I learned that WordPress.org was a better platform for what I wanted.

I had a hard time transferring all my articles over and it was very stressful only because WordPress was all so new to me plus I had years of articles to transfer over. It also changed my traffic ratings in the process. It was pretty crazy so make sure you have an idea of where you want to go. If you are not sure maybe go with Blogger since it is free.

Never Stop Learning

Secret # 4 – When I am passionate about something I love to learn more about it so having some advice from other bloggers is fantastic. I have taken courses from many influencers and bloggers I admire and learned more than I could have ever alone.

The courses, I recommend are Elite Blog Academy by Ruth Soukup, Blog to Biz Hive by Melyssa Griffin and 48hr Blogger Bootcamp by Marina De Giovanni. These are filled with so much information that will only make you a better blogger and better business boss.

Final Thoughts

How was that for advice for beginner bloggers? Being new can be hard. I know because I was new to blogging just like you a long time ago and know that getting all the right information can be hard.
