Shared Bedroom Makeover Plan

Shared Bedroom Makeover Plan | City of Creative Dreams

When you are ready for a change you are ready. I for one, am ready for a bedroom change. Hence my shared bedroom makeover plan idea. Now I am not talking anything too major but my son is growing so that means we got to make our bedroom work. Originally my plan was to not do anything too drastic because I was hoping to move however that time didn’t arrive last summer.

Since my son’s bed was starting to break plus it was too small. I need a bed that does not take up too much space. Funny enough, my little sister was running into the same problem and no longer could fit into her bunk bed.

With great debate, my other siblings did not want the top bunk so I thought why not take the bunk bed and create a very cool space for my son. He always tries to get up to that bunk anyways. Meanwhile, I was in the works of giving my living room a makeover so I was plenty busy.

Now I have been doing pretty good with my bedroom but life changes and even my bedroom can get messy. I thought I would show you my bedroom in the state it is in because I want to be as real as possible. My life is not a magazine, it looks fantastic one year (or four months) and a complete disaster the next year.

Sorry, but it is the truth.

Even though this picture makes me want to run away and hide, I am happy to be able to share something that is real and raw and realistic.

I made my side of the bedroom very nice with a new bed frame, frames and bedding. However, my son’s side of the bedroom was just not working out the way I was hoping however that is what a makeover is for right?

Bedroom Problems

Shared Bedroom Makeover Plan | City of Creative Dreams

Sharing a bedroom with my son has so difficult moments. My number one issue is that I felt like I didn’t really have my own space and neither did he. Just two beds in a bedroom. Here are a few issues of what I am dealing with in our shared bedroom:

  • No privacy
  • Bed to small (for son)
  • Not enough clothing storage
  • No clear indication of separate areas
  • No own space areas

Below you are going to find my plan for this project. I love IKEA products so when putting together this plan, I knew that I was going to be using a lot of what I already have and re-working it into our bedroom. It is nice to be saving some money on this project. How often does that happen? Mainly all that I will be buying is a door, paint and new dresser for myself since I will be giving my old one to my son. Sweet!

Final Thoughts

With this shared bedroom makeover, I hope to have my son on the top bunk. I am planning to get rid of the bottom bunk so that I can turn that area into my son’s play area and walk-in closet. Even though many things are being reused, this is a big project for me. I can’t wait to show you my reveal! What do you think about this project plan? Comment and tell me below!
