6 Year Blogiversary – Blogging Tips & Blogging Empowerment

6 Year Blogiversary – Blogging Tips & Blogging Empowerment | City of Creative Dreams

Happy 6 Year Blogiversary!

Can you believe that it’s been 6 years now? I love saying that to people when they ask me how long I’ve been blogging for. Their reactions are always the same… an emoji jaw drop 😲. They went from thinking I just started this blog to asking me advice on how they can start a blog. It’s a little unreal.

Now if you have been here since the beginning then thank you. If you are new then I just want to take a moment to welcome you and tell you that I started my site as a hobby at first to occupy myself while being a new mom to my son. Soon my passion grew and I was thrilled to be helping my readers organize their life or weddings. Now my site grows alongside my son which is so super cool to me.

This year’s blogiversary isn’t going to be any different from the last. I am going to share my highs, my lows and my best advice for bloggers all here so that you can grow your blog just like me. I am thinking of blogging empowerment because its more than writing and picture-perfect photos. Plus I get to go down memory lane which is also fun. Alright, let’s get this party started.

THINGS I LEARNED/ BLOGGING TIPS

6 Year Blogiversary – Blogging Tips & Blogging Empowerment | City of Creative Dreams

1. Go With Your Gut! – This year was my turning point. I knew that feeling like things needed to change in my life especially with blogging. So, I took a risk and decided to quit my job and pursue my blogging fulltime. I know insane because I just mentioned how I have a child but I made sure I had savings to hold me and a back up plan in case things didn’t go as planned.

2. Flip the Script – Having a blog for as long as I have means that you are going to want to grow so I knew that I wanted to launch my own online course. These are huge for bloggers these days so I wanted to dip my toe into this and I did it (Wedding Planning HQ) but not just that I decided to launch myself a YouTube Channel and an Etsy store as well. A little insane on my part but when I get an idea I am all in. You got to think about the things you want and make the effort to go all in.

3. Take a Moment! – One of the things I noticed was that I was doing too much. I mean I am a one women show, it can be hard to do everything myself but at the same time, I love it. However, I needed to decrease the amount of I was doing so I reduce the number of articles I write per week from 5 to 3 and recently made that decision with my Instagram account with doing less per week. You got to know your limit and know when you take a moment to rethink your blogging routine.

BLOGGING MISTAKES

Mistake #1 – Hiding: If I have to think about it one of my blogging mistakes is that I like to hide. I shy away from the camera or it has to be perfect before it goes live. I, sure enough, don’t put myself out there enough. It is easier for me to write than it is for me to be the spotlight of a picture. Believe me, it was hard to hear my voice on my online course or putting my image as the first thing you see when you enter my homepage or make a Youtube video but I did and I wish I have done it sooner.

It is so important to have a face to the voice so I am making that effort more and more. I am trying my best and know that it is not easy for everyone, therefore, take baby steps.

GOALS:

Love What You Do – My whole thing for right now is to love what I do over money, over stress and over someone else’s dream. It’s a strange concept for a lot of people to grasp or understand which is totally understanding but I want to continue waking up every day being exciting to go to work. Being exciting to do what I love and have that passion to help others while I do this.

So yes, I know that money is necessary to live but I also know that we spend so many hours at work, the least you can do is love it. So, if that means I need to take a side job to pay bills then I will do it but if I am going to invest all this time into my next job, it has to feel right for me.

Expand My Dream – My dream for this next year is to launch another course. I really loved the process of creating Wedding Planning HQ and even my free mini-course Wedding Planning Blueprint. So I am going to continue and keep creating so that I can continue to help people. I love that I have a voice to be able to help my readers get a more organized wedding but I know that only helps 50% of my audience and I want to aim for one that helps all of my audience.

I also want to write another book but of course one thing at a time. My mind is constantly coming up with ideas. So if you are like me with so many ideas or sparked inspiration I suggest that you write it down. In either a notebook or on an app on your phone. These ideas are there for a reason so don’t forget about it and pick one to work on.

BEST BLOG DAY:

When I launched my first online course – Wedding Planning HQ! It was by far the scariest thing for me to do. I’ve been working my butt off for many months. Spending time designing outlines, videos, workbooks and thinking about is this going to work for so long that pressing publish was nerve-wracking but I don’t regret a thing.

This is a way to really connect with your audience and really give a helping hand. If you are looking to create yourself an online course, one of my favourite bloggers Melyssa Griffin created an awesome course for bloggers called Blog to Biz Hive Bootcamp. I learned even more than I thought thought it and it helped me with creating my first course.

WORST BLOG DAY:

I would have to say my worst day was not making the income I was hoping for. I made some money don’t get me wrong I am very grateful for it but it was not what I imagine. Honestly, I was hoping to really be able to rely on my blogging income in my life. It didn’t work out that way which is fine because I am moving in that direction just at a slower rate.
